Super glad I stumbled across Cafe On Rumba—this spot is a gem in Jersey City, right across from the courthouse. The food is great—especially the ham and cheese empanada, which tastes like a gourmet pizza roll (in the best way possible). They’ve also got solid breakfast options—the homemade oatmeal hits the spot if you’re trying to start your day right. Interior is super clean and modern, with great vibes that make it a great place to hang or get a bit of work done. Best part? The prices are actually reasonable, which is rare these days—great for anyone trying to grab a meal on a budget. Definitely adding this to my regular rotation. Check it out before the lines get long.

Stopped by Café on Rumba just to try something new in the neighborhood — ended up loving it. The grilled steak was tender and juicy, with sautéed onions and lime on the side. Pork ribs were a bit dry but had a nicely balanced savory sauce, not the usual sweet BBQ. The seasoned rice reminded me of Hainanese chicken rice — flavorful and fragrant, especially with the black beans and sweet plantains. Portion size is generous for the price. Overall, a solid new Cuban fast food option around Journal Square. Would return.

I’m thrilled to have discovered a new gem in the Journal Square/Hilltop area. I ordered online and picked it up, and the restaurant was spotless and had a charming, cute decor. The food was delicious, with the chicken being perfectly moist and flavorful. The prices were also great. I also ordered a Greek salad, which was incredibly fresh. Overall, I had a wonderful dinner and can’t wait to return for more!

Spacious room; Manager said that we can sit anywhere(ended up on a 4-top, near the windows, even though it was just two of us). The menu is short and sweet with just the right amount of items. My wife had the Grilled Skirt Steak A La Carte with sauteed onions, yellow rice and red beans for $19.95. Thought the steak was a bit small for $19.95. She also had a cup of Green tea with honey for $1.95. I had the Chicken Soup for $2.95. It was a very large bowl. The soup had: chicken, celery, carrots, potatoes, a 1/4 Cobb of corn, and chopped noodles. The soup came with 2 very small limes to squeeze into the soup. I also had the Codfish & Potatoes for $11.95. The fish and potatoes were surrounded by a delicious sauce. Since I don't like rice, I chose the house salad with blue cheese dressing. I had to have the salad to go, since both of us were full of this outstanding meal we just consumed. For my drink, I had the Blackberry Shake $5.00, made with milk(had a choice to either have it made with water or milk). The shake was delicious and it helped my delicious food down my throat. We ended up getting some food to go, along with our dinner in the to-go containers. We bought four Empanadas @$1.95 each. We got a beef, chicken, spinach & cheese, AND a guava & cheese. Plus, two chocolate cakes, @$3.95 each.

I was in jury service and this cafe was within walking distance. I opted to dine in. If you are in a rush it’s probably best to get your food to go because it gets extremely busy during lunchtime. There is plenty of seating and the vibe is very cozy and chique. We opted for the Cubano sandwhich and Steak Tacos for lunch and Malta as our beverage. The Cubano was authentic and very flavorful. The sandwich was literally dripping with flavor. The steak tacos were very meaty tender and flavorful. No better way to was it down with an ice cold Malta on a hot day. It’s a great little gem in JC. Will definitely stop by again if I’m ever in the area.

Loved it! Welcome the brand new rumba on the corner of Newark avenue and Baldwin. Owned by the same people as the popular North St location, it is Very spacious, great party area, tons of menu options and the decor is very appealing. Great for a quick lunch stop or pick something up on the way home. We had a party there last night and they really provided a great experience for us.
